            Dear Ariel,

I hope you are well. I few days ago I started a new base on Zionism http://zionism.freebase.com. Among others, I created a type for Jewish colonies http://www.freebase.com/type/schema/base/zionism/colony?domain=/base/zionism Now, I noticed that you already use a a type for Kibbutzim. I think our types complete each other well. So I would like to ask you to merge the type.

            best regards,

            yours Frank

p.s. Not all of your listed settlements in the Kibbutz-view are really Kibbutzim. Among them are a few Moshavim. ;)

hi frank - this looks like a very good base. i'd be happy to move the kibbutz and related types (settlement movement and regional council) over and have you maintain them. I'll start by moving the types over to the zionism base - i'll need to be made an admin of the zionism base to do this.

            Ariel,

I've been trying to research my birth surname of "Switalski", and I see you had info on Kazimierz Switalski of Poland.  Our family moved to the States from Rzeszow, Poland, in the 1880's.  I'm most interested in any Jewish heritage I may have, as Switalski seems to be both a Jewish & non-Jewish surname.  Other family names of mine from that town are "Bachorz" & "Golonka".

I'm at a bit of a standstill, as all the maps & records the LDS have on Rzeszow Poland are in Yiddish - which should be a CLUE, duh.

Any info or direction you can provide is greatly appreciated.

              hi,

I'm afraid i don't have much more information on Kazimierz Switalski - i was simply adding information from the associated wikipedia article.  I'd recommend as another resource the database at Yad Vashem. A cursory search on that name found this list of similar names.

My family is from nearby in Częstochowa - but they didn't leave poland until much later.

              good luck,

              Ariel

Thanks for that list of names, &  I'll check out Yad Vashem more.  I think the family left when the persecution started in the late 1800's, then kept their heritage hidden once they got here.  But, it sure explains why my parents said, "You can go to church or to Temple with your friends, whichever you want" when I was a kid...

I've also used all the popular ancestry sites along with www.Jewishgen.org  &  www.avotaynu.com.   LDS said I may do best taking a trip to Poland & doing the research in person at the synagogues.

Yeah - i'm not sure how best to model this - it does have the cvt within a cvt issue.  we'd have to make it reciprocate to a topic.  i'm happy to add a reciprocal link, but i'm not sure what that would be.  perhaps change conviction to a topic?

ah, what a situation!  neither makes sense to do as a topic. stalemate?

is this my first situation where the fb client fails to allow proper modelling?

what a drag! these really are connected in the real world.

i'll talk to some people on the data team and see if they have any wise suggestions - otherwise i'll start look at ways to support cvts within cvts in the client.

Good morning Ariel, I see you are contributing to the Ballet Domain. There is a problem there with two Ballet composer lists: one (with 6 composers) is in the Ballet Domain, and the other one (with 47 composers) is in carmenmfenn1's types. The two lists do not overlap yet. Can one combine the two together, please? I have no clue how to do this. Thank you

you can ask the data team for help with this: (this guy).

but either way - i'd almost suggest taking the new one in the Ballet domain - and changing the expected type for a list of text to a list of Ballet topics and then just using the list importer to move the composers from one list to the other.  i know it's tedious, but it shouldn't take too long.
